About Me

My name is Shelby Larkin and I am a graphic designer in the Washington DC area. I currently work for ECS, a firm known for taking on tough engineering, transformation, and creative challenges based in Arlington, Virginia. Specifically, I work on a contract for the Department of Homeland Security, at their office in downtown DC. I support the Maestro team as the sole graphic designer, managing teams communications to ensure that customer goals are met and design specifications are delivered upon.

Previously I worked for a eGlobalTech, a female-founded management consulting and IT solutions firm. My day-to-day schedule varied between developing cybersecurity training graphics and posters, designing visually stimulating PowerPoint presentation decks, division and program logos and infographics, as well as working on print publications like brochures and guidance documents. I was fortunate to be a part of a team of cybersecurity experts, who in turn helped develop my knowledge in the topic over the past few years.

Throughout college, I had the opportunity to design both in class and in the professional world - I interned at RCI in Indianapolis, where I worked in both print and digital design, as well as helped manage and execute their summer event programming. I also interned for AgPrinters, a company located in West Lafayette, IN, that specializes in seed catalogs for the agriculture industry. Through my connections as a student, I worked with Purdue University's Women in Business organization to redesign their logo - and created a sleek and professional version that suits their organization and was debuted for their 2014 conference. In my spare time I also worked with students by designing their personal branding to be used for both personal and professional uses.

During my time at Purdue I became a member of Shoemaker Cooperative, one of the twelve Cooperative houses on Purdue's campus. Living in a 39-member organization provided me with invaluable experiences, gave me the chance to grow in completely new ways and taught me to be an extremely patient and understanding person. During those three years while living in Shoemaker I held many leadership roles, including Social Chair, Technology Chair, Food Purchaser Co-chair and Pledge Fundraiser Co-chair. I was also a part of the four member committee that planned Shoemaker's 75th Anniversary celebration, which took place May 2014. Through my time as a Shoemaker member I had also been given the chance to redesign our house's website, design apparel that has been sold to both members and the rest of the Cooperative System, organized social and philanthropic events and served as a member of our governing system, Purdue Cooperative Council.
